Polyethylene gas pipe fittings

Polyethylene gas pipe fittings are key connection parts in the gas transmission system. They are made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) materials and are specially used for the construction and renovation of urban gas pipeline networks. Compared with traditional metal pipe fittings, polyethylene gas pipe fittings have significant advantages such as light weight, corrosion resistance, and convenient construction. They have become the preferred material for modern gas transmission systems.

Main features of Polyethylene gas pipe fittings

1. Excellent corrosion resistance: Polyethylene materials are naturally immune to electrochemical corrosion, are not corroded by acids, alkalis, and salts in the soil, and have a service life of more than 50 years.

2. Excellent flexibility and impact resistance: PE pipe fittings have good flexibility and can resist the impact of natural disasters such as ground subsidence and earthquakes.

3. Reliable connection performance: The use of hot-melt butt or electric fusion connection technology can achieve molecular-level connection to ensure that the interface strength is not lower than the pipe itself.

4. Excellent flow characteristics: smooth inner wall, low friction coefficient, high gas transmission efficiency, and low pressure loss.

5. Environmental protection and safety: The material is non-toxic and odorless, will not cause secondary pollution to the transmission medium, and meets food-grade hygiene standards.

Classification and application

1. Classification by connection method

Hot-melt butt fittings: suitable for large-diameter pipe connections, by heating the pipes at both ends to melt them and then butt-joint forming

Electrofusion fittings: built-in electric heating wire, electric heating to achieve connection, suitable for various working conditions and pipe diameters

Mechanical connection fittings: stainless steel clamps are used to achieve quick connection, suitable for temporary projects or emergency repairs

2. Classification by function

Steering fittings: including HDPE 45 degree elbow,HDPE 90 degree elbow, etc., used to change the direction of the pipeline

Branch fittings: tees, crosses, etc., used for pipeline diversion

Reducing fittings: reducing joints, used for connecting pipes of different diameters

End fittings: pipe caps, plugs, etc., used to close the end of the pipeline

Quality control

High-quality Polyethylene gas pipe fittings must comply with the national standard GB 15558.2-2005 “Buried Polyethylene Pipe Fittings for Gas”. The main quality control points include:

1. Raw material control: PE100 or PE80 grade special gas polyethylene raw materials must be used

2. Dimensional accuracy: The socket size of the pipe fitting must perfectly match the pipe

3. Hydrostatic strength: The continuous ring stress at 20°C must reach 9.0MPa (PE100) or 8.0MPa (PE80) without cracking

4. Melt mass flow rate: Control within the standard range to ensure the quality of hot melt connection

5. Oxidation induction time: More than 20 minutes to ensure the anti-aging performance of the material

Installation points of Polyethylene gas pipe fittings

Storage requirements: avoid direct sunlight, stay away from heat sources, and stack height not exceeding 1.5 meters

Construction environment: It is not suitable to perform hot melt connection when the ambient temperature is lower than -5℃ or in windy weather

Connection process:

Hot melt connection: The heating temperature (200-220℃), heating time and connection pressure must be strictly controlled

Electrofusion connection: Ensure that the pipe is inserted to the right depth and the power-on parameters meet the requirements of the pipe fittings

Quality inspection: Each connection joint should be inspected and pressure tested

Backfill requirements: Fine sand or soft soil should be backfilled around the pipeline to avoid sharp stones damaging the pipe

Polyethylene gas pipe fittings are gradually replacing traditional metal pipe fittings with their excellent performance and economic benefits, becoming the mainstream choice for urban gas transmission systems. With the continuous advancement of material technology and connection technology, polyethylene gas pipe fittings will play a more important role in ensuring urban gas safety and promoting the use of clean energy. Industry practitioners should strictly control product quality, standardize construction operations, and jointly promote the healthy development of their technology.
