Product Overview
PVC Butterfly Valve is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant valve made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or related plastics (such as CPVC, UPVC, PP, etc.), mainly used to control the flow of media in pipelines or cut off the flow. The valve can be opened and closed quickly by rotating the butterfly plate (valve plate), and is suitable for water treatment, chemical, food, medicine and environmental protection industries, especially for conveying corrosive liquids or gases.

Strong corrosion resistance: The valve body is made of PVC, CPVC, UPVC or PP, which can withstand corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, and salts, but not suitable for organic solvents such as aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones.
Lightweight design: Compared with metal valves, it is lighter (about 1/5 of steel valves) and easier to install and maintain.
Excellent sealing performance: EPDM, FPM (fluororubber) or PTFE sealing rings are used to ensure low leakage rate, suitable for high-purity fluids (such as ultrapure water).

Pvc butterfly valve installation
1. Preparation before installation
Check the valve: confirm that the model, size (DN), and pressure level (PN) of the PVC butterfly valve match the pipeline, and check whether the valve body, sealing ring, and drive device are intact.
Clean the pipeline: remove welding slag, burrs and other debris in the pipeline to avoid scratching the valve seat or affecting the sealing.
Check the flow direction: Some butterfly valves have flow direction markings (such as arrows). It is necessary to ensure that the installation direction is consistent with the flow direction of the medium (usually there is no strict requirement, but it is recommended to follow the manufacturer’s instructions).
2. Installation steps
Installation of wafer-type butterfly valve (most common)
Positioning flange: Place the butterfly valve between two pipe flanges to ensure that the valve plate is in a “slightly open” state (about 5°~10°) to avoid squeezing the sealing ring.
Insert bolts: Insert the flange bolts and manually pre-tighten the nuts first to ensure that the valve is centered without deviation.
Symmetrical tightening: Tighten the bolts step by step in diagonal order to avoid deformation of the valve body caused by unilateral force (it is recommended to use a torque wrench and refer to the torque value provided by the manufacturer).
Check the seal: Close the valve completely and observe whether the flange connection is leaking.
Installation of flange butterfly valve
Flange docking: align the valve flange with the pipe flange and insert the sealing gasket (EPDM or PTFE material).
Bolt fixing: tighten the bolts evenly in diagonal order to ensure force balance.
3. Operation test
Manual operation: rotate the handle or worm gear to check whether the valve plate is flexible to open and close without jamming.
Automatic drive (electric/pneumatic): test the opening and closing action of the valve after power on or ventilation to confirm that the signal feedback is normal.
Pressure test: gradually increase the pressure after the medium is passed, check the sealing of the valve seat and whether the flange connection is leaking.
4. Precautions
Avoid violent operation: the strength of PVC material is lower than that of metal, and over-tightening the bolts may cause the valve body to crack.
Temperature limit: when the ambient or medium temperature exceeds the temperature resistance range of the valve body (such as PVC is usually ≤60℃), it is necessary to use CPVC or PVDF material valve instead.
Protective measures: when installing outdoors, it is recommended to install a protective cover in areas with strong ultraviolet rays; the aging of the sealing ring should be checked regularly in corrosive environments.
5. Common Problem Solving
Leakage problem:
Flange connection leakage: Re-tighten the bolts or replace the gasket.
Valve seat leakage: Check whether the seal is worn and replace it if necessary.
Valve plate stuck:
Remove foreign matter from the pipeline.
Lubricate the valve stem (use silicone-based grease to avoid grease contamination of the medium).
