Product Overview

PVC Ball Valve is a fluid control valve made of high-strength polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material, which can achieve fast opening and closing and flow regulation by rotating the ball. With its excellent corrosion resistance and lightweight characteristics, PVC Ball Valve is widely used in chemical industry, water treatment, irrigation system, building water supply and drainage, etc., and is particularly suitable for conveying corrosive media such as acid, alkali, and salt.

PVC Ball Valve Features

Excellent corrosion resistance: Made of high-quality PVC/UPVC/CPVC materials, it can withstand corrosion from a variety of chemical media

Low fluid resistance: The full-bore design allows almost no pressure loss when the fluid passes through

Easy operation: 90° rotation can achieve fast opening and closing, and the operating torque is small

Good sealing performance: PTFE or EPDM sealing ring is used to ensure zero leakage

Lightweight design: The weight is only 1/5 of that of metal valves, and installation and maintenance are more convenient

Long service life: wear-resistant and anti-aging, normal use can reach more than 10 years

Main types

Full-bore ball valve: the flow channel diameter is consistent with the inner diameter of the pipe, and the pressure loss is minimal

Reduced-bore ball valve: the flow channel diameter is smaller than the inner diameter of the pipe, suitable for low-pressure systems

Three-way ball valve: can achieve medium diversion or confluence

Electric/pneumatic ball valve: suitable for automatic control systems

What are PVC ball valves used for?

1. Fluid on-off control

Quickly cut off the medium: The pipeline can be fully opened or closed by rotating the handle 90°, which is simple and quick to operate.

Emergency cut-off: The fluid can be quickly cut off when the pipeline leaks or the system is maintained.

2. Flow regulation

Partial opening to adjust the flow: By controlling the rotation angle of the ball (non-fully open/fully closed state), the medium flow can be accurately adjusted (Note: long-term half-open state may affect the life of the seal).

3. Medium distribution and switching

Three-way ball valve: used for diversion, confluence or switching flow direction (such as T-type three-way valve can achieve three-way control).

Do PVC ball valves leak?

PVC ball valves can achieve zero leakage under normal use (sealing level can reach ANSI VI level), but its sealing performance depends on factors such as material quality, installation method, and use environment. The following is a detailed analysis:

1. Possible causes of leakage

Leakage CauseDescriptionSolution
Seal AgingEPDM/PTFE seals harden or crack after prolonged exposure to chemicals or heatRegularly inspect and replace seals every 3–5 years (shorter cycle in chemical environments)
Ball Surface DamageWeld slag or particles in the pipeline cause ball surface abrasionThoroughly clean the pipeline before installation; install a filter for media with particles
Improper InstallationMisaligned or overtightened threaded/flanged connections deform the valve bodyTighten bolts evenly in a crisscross pattern using a torque wrench (follow manufacturer specs)
Pressure/Temperature ExceededExceeding PN1.6MPa or 60℃ (for PVC) increases seal failure riskUse CPVC/PVDF for high pressure; switch to metal seats in high-temperature environments
Harsh OperationRapid switching or excessive force on the handle damages sealing surfacesRotate handle slowly; reduce actuation speed for electric/pneumatic valves

2. How to detect leaks?

Bubble test: Close one end of the valve, inject water and pressurize it to observe whether there are bubbles seeping out from the other side.

Pressure gauge monitoring: Keep the valve closed, and if the system pressure continues to drop, there may be a leak.

Visual inspection: There are crystallization and wet marks on the valve stem or connecting flange.

3. Measures to prevent leaks

Selection stage:

For corrosive media, use PTFE valve seats (acid and alkali resistance is better than EPDM).

For frequent switching occasions, choose metal hard-sealed ball valves (but the cost is higher).

Installation stage:

Ensure the coaxiality of the pipeline and the valve to avoid stress distortion.

Wrap raw tape around the threaded connection or apply PVC special glue.

Use and maintenance:

Lubricate the valve stem regularly (food-grade silicone grease).

Empty the pipeline when it is not used in cold areas to prevent frost heave from damaging the valve body.

4. Emergency treatment for leaks

Minor leakage: Try to tighten the flange bolts or threaded connectors.

Valve seat leakage: After closing the upstream and downstream pressures, replace the sealing ring (some ball valves can be repaired online).

Valve body rupture: stop using immediately and replace the entire valve (PVC valves cannot be repaired by welding).

What is the pressure rating of a PVC ball valve?

1. Standard pressure rating

UPVC ball valve: usually PN1.0~PN1.6MPa (10~16bar).

CPVC ball valve: Due to higher temperature resistance, some models can reach PN1.6MPa, but the pressure resistance will be reduced at high temperature.

PVDF/PPH ball valve: Stronger pressure resistance, some industrial-grade products can reach PN1.6MPa or even higher.

2. Effect of temperature on pressure resistance

UPVC: It can withstand 100% of the nominal pressure at 23℃, but the pressure resistance may drop to 22% when the temperature rises to 60℃.

CPVC: The pressure resistance level may drop to 20% at 93℃ (200℉).

PVDF: It can still maintain high pressure resistance at 120℃.

3. Special application restrictions

Modified PVC ball valve: Some manufacturers stipulate that the working pressure does not exceed 1.0MPa and the temperature is ≤45℃.

Large-diameter ball valves (such as DN200 and above): Be cautious when using them under long-term high pressure. It is recommended to choose a thickened design.

4. International standard adaptation

Complies with ANSI, DIN, JIS and other standards. Some products support PN10/PN16 grades
